Inspired by the DIY (do-it-yourself) trends, the Everhart Museum presented a series of DIY workshops inspired by the museum collections. Each class included a 30-minute tour of a selected gallery, followed by a 90-minute gifting workshop/social hour. Refreshments were served as these programs not only encourage learning new skills but provided an opportunity to meet new friends. The schedule was as follows:
November 27 - Fine Art Ceramic Coasters: This workshop explored mixed media and alternative techniques that can be used on glass, ceramics or paper. Students created a series of 4-coasters to be given as a gift, or used at home! Students found inspiration in the traveling exhibit, Sightlines.
December 4 - Flavored Oils: This workshop explored the flavors of the world by creating oils infused with exotic spices and herbs. Creations could be used as a salad dressing, marinade, or dipping sauce, perfect for holiday meals! Students found inspiration on a tour of the museum’s Everhart Around the World Gallery.
December 11 - Decorative Plates: This workshop explored the decorative arts through symbols and repetitious patterning. Students created a work of art inspired by utilitarian objects found in the museum’s Folk Art Gallery.
