New for Summer 2012 is BUZZ Camp for for children entering kindergarten to 2nd grade in the fall of 2012. BUZZ Camp combines the art and science of bees over five days of interactive learning.
At BUZZ Camp, students will explore NEPA pollinators with Phyllis Reinhardt of the Master Gardner’s and understand the classic tales and compositions about bees with musician, Doug Smith and writer, Lucia Dailey. Students will also spend a full day with the Everhart Museum BUZZ Experts exploring the life cycle of bees, how they fly, and how they are mathematical geniuses and on day 4, students will create works of art with author and illustrator Lindsay Barrett George. On the final day, students will work with Ellen McGlynn of the Backyard Beekeepers observing the honeybee through an educational hive, which will be followed by a hands-on demonstration on the process of uncapping, spinning, filtering a 2 oz. jar of honey!
BUZZ Camp will be held June 25 – 29 (Mon-Fri) from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. The cost is $65/child – Museum members, $75 /child – non-members, for the entire week. Students must pre-register no later than Wednesday, June 13, 2012. Space is limited and registration is based on a first come, first served.
