Dream Big, Read!

The Everhart Museum is proud to partner with the Lackawanna County Library System 2012 Summer Passport Program “Dream Big, Read!”

LIVE BABY DRAGON VISITS NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA
FROM JUNE 23 – JUNE 27

WHEN:   Monday, June 25 or Thursday June 28

• 11:30AM – It’s Dragon Day at the Everhart Museum of Natural History, Science and Art in Scranton. The Baby Dragon and the Viking will have a special performance for the children in attendance.

This event is open to the General Public. Standard Admission rates apply to enter the museum after the event. For more information on rates and times please visit www.everhart-museum.org.

This year, the Everhart Museum will host three days of FREE science programs for children registered for the Lackawanna County Library System Summer Passport Program.   Dream BIG, BIGGER, BIGGEST with:

“A Journey from the Sun to the Edge of the Solar System”

In cooperation with the University of Scranton Physics Club

Grades- 3-6
Pre-registration is required.

June 25, 2012
2:00 PM- 3:30 PM
Students will explore the sun through the eye of a telescope and understand the science of the sky from the earth’s perspective.  Students will also gather objects from earth to create prints made with exposure to the sun.

June 28, 2012
2:00 PM- 3:30 PM
Students will learn about the distance from one planet to the next in a fun interactive planet mapping workshop.  At the end of the journey, students will experience a hands-on rocket launch!

June 29, 2012
2:00 PM- 3:30 PM
On the last day, students will travel from earth to the chilly edge of the solar system.  At the end of the day, students will experiment with liquid nitrogen to create a cold treat.

HOW TO REGISTER:

Registration for the Summer Reading Club begins June 11th, 2012 at your local Lackawanna County Library.  Once students are registered for the passport, parents may call the Everhart Museum at 346-7186 to sign up for the Museum “Journey” program.

Space is limited.  Registration deadline for the “Journey” program is June 21, 2012.
