Panel Discussion and Screening of “An Empty Place at the Table,” in partnership with the Women’s Resource Center

The half-hour documentary An Empty Place at the Table confronts the traumatic reality of domestic violence in America. Narrated by Academy Award Winning actress Susan Sarandon, An Empty Place at the Table provides a national forum for America’s most articulate critical voices in feminism, law, government, healthcare, and the media to debate the roles of these social institutions in both redressing and ingraining domestic violence in the United States.
Following a screening of the film, a panel discussion will be held featuring:
- Jennifer Joyce, MD, FAAFP, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, Professor of Family Medicine
- Shubhra Shetty, MD, FACP, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, Regional Associate Dean, North Campus, Professor of MedicineAndrea Vladika, Mother of Danielle.
- Attorney Jodi Lewis, WRC’s Legal Director for the Barbara J. Hart Justice Center
The Panel Discussion and Screening will also include a viewing of the exhibition An Empty Place at the Table. The exhibition, based on the film, comprises victims’ place settings that reflect their interests, personalities, and hopes. A Jane Doe place setting represents the untold number of individuals who have died at the hands of their abusive partner, family member, or spouse. The mission of this exhibit is to:
Honor the lives of individual women, men, teens and children.
Increase awareness of the magnitude of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Change systems that perpetuate domestic and sexual violence.
