Rosen Method is an easy movement program designed to increase range of motion, improve flexibility, and ease breathing. Gently using all the joints, this exercise was developed to prevent difficulties and help people age gracefully. Admission is free to Everhart Museum members, $6/class for all others. September 5, 2011                                            last day to view An American Landscape

An American Landscape: The 150th Anniversary of the Civil War is Andrew Lichtenstein’s personal journey to find meaning in history and memory. For the past few years he has documented Civil War reenactors in both the North and Southern states, as well as exploring the current state of the Civil Rights Movement 50 years after the Voting Rights Act. Andrew Lichtenstein has spent the last two decades covering long-term stories of social concern in the United States and is currently a member of Facing Change: Documenting America (FCDA), a collective of writers and photographers Inspired by the Farm Security Administration photography project of the Great Depression. Lichtenstein spent eight years documenting the rise of the prison industrial complex after receiving an Open Society Institute Fellowship in 2000. In 2007, he authored Never Coming Home, a book documenting the funerals for American soldiers killed in Iraq. His work, exhibited around the world, has been published in many magazines and newspapers, including Time, Newsweek, US News and World Report and The New York Times. The Everhart Museum presents another fun-filled season of art-related classes inspired by our Fall exhibit, Buds, Blooms and Berries: Plants in Science, Culture & Art. Come plant the seeds of ideas, water your creative spirit, and grow some art with us! Children in grades K-5 will meet on four consecutive Saturday mornings for art activities on the theme of plants: Flower Magic; Garden Guardians; Terrific Trees; and the Power of Paper. The cost for four sessions is $16 for Everhart Museum members and $20 for non-members. Pre-registration is required. September 11, 2011                                          Nights of 9/11 exhibit opens to the public

Artist, photographer and helicopter pilot Hale Gurland welds large-size sculptures in metal. On September 11, 2001 and in the days that followed, he contributed to the rescue effort at Ground Zero in New York, cutting beams. His black and white images recalling Brueghel’s inferno, were shot on five rolls of film on those first few nights, before the media was granted access. These never-before-seen photographs from Ground Zero are the subject of Nights of 9/11 commemorating the 10th anniversary of that event. The exhibit was developed in collaboration with Contact Press Images of New York & Paris and will be on display through October 24, 2011. It is funded in part by PNC Bank. Join the Everhart Museum, the Lackawanna County Children’s Library, Scranton Cultural Center, and area artists for museum-based whole-child learning in literature, the arts and natural sciences. September 12th program features dance with Lauren Smith in the Fine Art Gallery. This program is free and suitable for Pre-K children (age 3-5). Pre-registration is required and groups are welcome. September 16, 2011                                          Everhart at the Farmers’ Market, 1:00 to 7:00 pm

Join the Everhart Museum at the Scranton Cooperative Farmers’ Market for an afternoon of educational demonstrations and hands-on activities focused on locally grown and produced foods. Activities include programs about canning & preserving, grilling, and floral arranging as well as food-related topics such as nutrition, diet, and good health. The afternoon also features a children’s corn husking contest and a square dance demonstration by Susque Squares & Danjo Wheelers. September 23, 2011                                          Farm to Table, 6:00 to 9:00 pm

FARM TO TABLE is a new fundraising event in support of the Everhart Museum and is a celebration of NEPA’s autumn harvest. The event supports America’s growing “locavore” movement by consuming foods grown and produced in a 100-mile radius. By eating “locally” we support the regional economy and the agricultural heritage of our community. Chefs Cliff and Dave Daniels of Epicurean Delight are preparing a menu crafted from the best foods grown or produced in Northeast Pennsylvania. This family-style dinner will be held on the grounds of the Museum which will be transformed by Duffy Event Design. Entertainment will be provided by “Hickory Rose” with country-style music and dancing. Please note that participation is limited to those 21 and older. Students in grades 4-6 will meet after school to create with master artists across all art disciplines: visual art, music, storytelling and dance. The Everhart Museum’s rich and varied collection will be a springboard for inspiration and September 26thprogram features music with Doug Smith.  Enrollment is limited and preregistration for the entire series September 26th through November 14th is required.
