October 1, 2011                                                EverhART 101, 10:30 am to Noon

The Everhart Museum presents another fun-filled season of art-related classes inspired by our Fall exhibit, Buds, Blooms and Berries: Plants in Science, Culture & Art. Come plant the seeds of ideas, water your creative spirit, and grow some art with us! Children in grades K-5 will meet on four consecutive Saturday mornings for art activities on the theme of plants: Flower Magic; Garden Guardians; Terrific Trees; and the Power of Paper. The cost for four sessions is $16 for Everhart Museum members and $20 for non-members. Pre-registration is required. October 1, 2011                                                Everhart Museum at “Pages and Places”

Children ages 6-12 are invited attend a puppet workshop as part of the Everhart Museum’s participation in downtown Scranton’s “Pages and Places” Book Festival. The staff of the Everhart Museum will be your guide at this Kid’s Fest program taking place on the Courthouse Square. October 3, 2011                                                Early Explorers, 1:00 to 1:45 pm

Join the Everhart Museum, the Lackawanna County Children’s Library, Scranton Cultural Center, and area artists for museum-based whole-child learning in literature, the arts and natural sciences. October 3rd program features storytelling with Fiona Siobhan Powell in the Fine Art Gallery. This program is free and suitable for Pre-K children (age 3-5). Pre-registration is required and groups are welcome. Early Explorers is funded in part by PNC Bank. Students in grades 4-6 will meet after school to create with master artists across all art disciplines: visual art, music, storytelling and dance. The Everhart Museum’s rich and varied collection will be a springboard for inspiration and the October 3rd program features storytelling with Fiona Siobhan Powell. Enrollment is limited and preregistration for the entire series September 26th through November 14th is required. The Everhart Museum is honored to present the return visit of The Wall That Heals, a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. Like the original Wall, the replica is erected in a chevron-shape and complete with the more than 58,000 names of those killed or missing in action from the conflict. The Wall That Heals also features a Traveling Museum and Information Center providing a comprehensive educational component to enrich and complete visitors’ experiences. The Museum chronicles the Vietnam War era and the unique healing power of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, while the InformationCenterserves as a venue for people to learn about friends and loved ones lost in the war. Rosen Method is an easy movement program designed to increase range of motion, improve flexibility, and ease breathing. Gently using all the joints, this exercise was developed to prevent difficulties and help people age gracefully. Admission is free to Everhart Museum members, $6/class for all others. October 15, 2011                                              Bag-A-Badge, 1:00 to 4:30 pm

Experience the world in a new way as you explore the Everhart Museum and earn your “Showman” (for Webelos) and “Tall Tales” (for Bears) badge! Taking inspiration from the Everhart’s American Folk Art Gallery, Cub Scouts will complete the requirements for a badge in one afternoon. Please note that the badge is not provided and participants will need to obtain that from their troop leader. Fee is $12/child and includes a snack. Pre-registration required. Taught by Keystone College students in the Art Education Dept., children in grades K-5 will meet on four consecutive Saturday mornings for art activities.  Each week they will work in a different media: drawing, printmaking, painting, and sculpture. The cost for four sessions is $16 for Everhart Museum members and $20 for non-members.
