CENTENNIAL SCAVENGER HUNT

Celebrate the Everhart's Centennial Year by participating in our year-long scavenger hunt! Prizes, discounts, and a whole lot of fun await you as you try to locate 100 objects in our galleries throughout the year. Each month, log on to our website www.everhart-museum.org to print a new list of objects. Bring your list to the Museum, find all the objects as you search the galleries, and get a stamp and prize at the end of your hunt.

SUNDAY IN THE PARK

Our 3rd annual Sunday in the Park is a collaborative event put on by the Everhart Museum, Lackawanna County Library System, and the Scranton Cultural Center for children and their families. This event is free and will feature hands on interactive projects, crafts, face-painting, games, raffles and live musical performances. This year will highlight the natural world focusing on the libraries summer theme Catch the Reading Bug and the Everhart's summer exhibition Art of the Land. No reservations are required.

ART OF THE LAND COMMUNITY DAY

Celebrate our Pennsylvania Landscape! Docent led Art of the Land exhibit tours, naturalist led interpretive walks in the park, recycled craft activities and more brought to you by the Everhart Museum, Lackawanna County Library System and Scranton Cultural Center. Historian Paul Rosier will be joining us to present From Earth Day to Global Warming: A Modern Environmental History of Pennsylvania, an interactive program funded in part by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council and designed to provide participants with an overview of important environmental issues affecting Pennsylvania including a review of why Pennsylvania produces 1% of the world's greenhouse emissions. No reservations are required.

ART OF THE LAND FILM SERIES: AT THE SCRANTON CULTURAL CENTER

Films based on Art of the Land exhibit and environmental consequences will be shown at the Scranton Cultural Center in collaboration with the Everhart Museum and the Lackawanna County Library System. Led by Andrea Talarico of Anthology Books, and inspired by our summer exhibition, Art of the Land, monthly selections are as follows: June 19th is The Place Within: Portraits of the American Landscape by Twenty Contemporary Writers by Jodi Daynard; July 17th is Women of Sand and Myrrh by Hanan Al-Shaykh; and August 21 is Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison. ILLUSTRATED LECTURE “WITH THE BUNCH AT LAKE CAREY”

Celebrate our Art of the Land summer exhibition with local author Walter Broughton. His latest book Lake Carey is the newest local addition to the nationally popular Images of America Series. Broughton will present an illustrated discussion of Lake Carey from 1870-1918, focusing on its development and decline as a regional, summer resort. Copies of Lake Carey will be available for purchase and following his lecture, there will be a book signing and discussion with the author. No reservations required.

PASTELS WITH VIRGINIA SOSIK
Saturday, August 16, 2008: 10:00- 3:00 pm; Suitable for Ages 16 and older; $50 (lunch & supplies included)

Love pastels? Always wanted to try them? Now's your chance to make landscape come alive during this one-day pastel workshop. This class will concentrate on composition, value, rendering techniques, and color harmony, while also making pastels and landscape less intimidating to those who may be new to it. Special emphasis will be placed on skies, looking at light, time, and weather to capture the atmosphere of the out-of-doors. Pre-registration is required and participation is limited to 12 students.

EARLY EXPLORATIONS: LOOKING AND READING TOGETHER

Each workshop features a different book and activity designed to develop pre-literacy skills through drama, art, and music featuring area artists & staff from the Lackawanna County Children's Library. Funded in part by a grant from PNC Bank. Classes are free, and groups are welcome. Pre-registration is required.

The Everhart Museum joins forces with the Lackawanna County Library System to help celebrate its summer reading series, Catch the Reading Bug! We will take a closer look at insects and discuss their physical characteristics and life cycles, we will go on an insect safari and make a craft to take home! ARTS ALIVE INTERMEDIATE

An intensive two-week fine arts program for students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Participants will explore painting, theater, and poetry with acclaimed professional artists from throughout the region. Classes promise to foster creativity, promote experimentation, enrich self-expression, and strengthen artistic skills through both collaborative projects and individual work. Sponsors are the Everhart Museum, NEIU 19, and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily through the generous support of the Scranton School District. Pre-registration is required and the camp is limited to 20 participants.

IMAGINATION ARTS INSTITUTE

NSI (NATURE SCENE INVESTIGATOR) - NEW FOR SUMMER 2008!
August 4-8, 2008; 9:00 am -3:00 pm; Limited to Grades 3- 5; $125 per student for Everhart Museum members, $150 per student for non-members

This is an engaging, hands-on camp for children interested in the natural sciences. We will begin with investigations of the Everhart Museum's scientific collections, followed by hikes to different habitats within Nay Aug Park to explore the environment and collect meaningful scientific data on local plant and animals. We will make discoveries while learning to use the many cool tools of a naturalist including watching birds through binoculars, identifying trees with a field guide and catching butterflies with nets. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily through the generous support of the Scranton School District. Pre-registration is required and the camp is limited to 20 participants.

EVERHART BIRTHDAY PARTIES

If you're looking for a unique way to celebrate your birthday, you've come to the right place. We have the staff, space, and resources to ensure a memorable, educational, and above all fun time. Select from one of four workshop themes; Birds, Dinosaurs, Art or Ancient Egypt. Parties may be held Saturday or Sunday afternoons between 11:00am and 3:00pm. The tour and workshop lasts approximately 1 hour and you will be provided with space in our lower gallery for cake, games and presents immediately following the workshop. Cost is $8 per child for members and $10 per child for non-members and includes a favor bag. There is a minimum of 15 and maximum of 25 children.



Feel free to contact us if you're looking for a group tour to suit your interests. We also can provide tours/activities for both cub and girl scouts to help fulfill badge requirements (15 participants or more).   • For assistance in course selections, please call the Everhart Education Department at 570.346.7186.
  • Please be advised that all courses require a 30% non-refundable deposit. You are not officially registered for a class until your deposit is received.
  • If minimum enrollment for a class is not met, the class will be cancelled three to four days before it is scheduled to begin. Students will be notified and refunded their deposit.
  • Students with an Everhart Family Level or above membership will receive a 10% tuition discount (materials fees not discounted).
  • Parents: By signing this form, you give permission for your child to attend a class at the Everhart Museum and agree the following statements: My child shall behave in conformity with the rules and regulations of the Everhart Museum, and, in the event his/her behavior is detrimental to the program, understand that the Everhart has the right to end my child's participation in the program immediately. In the case of gross misconduct, illness, or accident, no refund will be made. Although the Everhart maintains the highest safety standards, the museum does not assume liability for accidents, illness, or disease. The Everhart Museum has my permission to use photos of my child in promotional and educational literature.
